Book Now - our first Steam Shell Boilers (Category 2) Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) course for 2019 is on 18th to 22nd February.

Who should attend?

This course is designed for practicing boilerhouse operators or those who are responsible for managing a boilerhouse and it’s operators.  Delegates can also attend who are working on boilers such as commissioning engineers or boiler service engineers.

Existing knowledge required?

Boilerhouse operators must have 6 months (or 100 hours) practical experience. This is to be backed up with written evidence in order to pass the course. Sometimes a delegate does not have the experience or wants to attend to gain a better understanding of the records that should be kept. They can apply for a deferment at the application stage.

What will the delegate learn?

Under PUWER it is a legal requirement to train staff to operate all equipment. The BG01 (safe operation of boilers) requires boiler operators to be trained to BOAS. The CEA has devised a scheme recognised by industry, insurers and HSE, which provides a comprehensive qualification for operators and managers of industrial and commercial boiler plant.  The ultimate aim of the course is to train and prepare delegates for passing the BOAS accreditation.  In order to achieve this the delegate will go through the BOAS Syllabus:

1. Safety and Legal Requirements
2. Basic Heat and Heat Transfer Concepts
3. Feedwater and Boiler Water Analysis
4. Draught and Combustion
5. Energy Efficiency
6. Environment
7. Fuel Concepts
8. Boilers and Auxiliaries
9. Operation
10. Controls and Instrumentation
